Is your eye evil, because I am good? The Master's question turns our grumbling inside out.
The moment
The owner answers the murmurers: 'Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Didn't you agree with me for a denarius? Take what is yours and go. I desire to give to this last just as much as to you.'
Where it points
This goodness echoes Judah's blessing: 'The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until Shiloh comes.' Jesus, the Lion of Judah, has conquered—and in His kingdom, the last are first.
For today
Today, when you're tempted to measure worth by effort, remember: His grace is His own. Let His goodness silence your eye's envy, and rejoice that He gives freely.
